U is for Underwear

We had 26 children and 10 adults come to story hour today. We are getting close to the end of story hour and the end of the alphabet! Our letter today was the letter U. The theme was underwear. Some of the kids were very much excited about hearing stories about underwear!  Our first story was

Underwear by Mary Monsell This story is about a zebra, orangutan, and a buffalo. The zebra and orangutan love underwear. They love it so much they wear it anywhere they can. Buffalo does not like underwear and is a bit of a grump. Will zebra and orangutan get buffalo to wear a pair of underwear? After the story we sang "Now You're Getting Dressed" to the tune of "Mary had a Little Lamb." While we sang the song, we acted out putting on different articles of clothing. The next book we read is brand new to our library its called

Polar Bears Underwear by Tupera Tupera This story is about a polar bear who has lost his underwear and goes on a hunt to find it. I had magnetic pieces to go along with the telling of the story. The kids had fun trying to guess who's underwear was who's. We then sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Underwear." The parents/caregivers got a kick our of this one! We sang it through twice for good measure. Our last story today was

Aliens Love Underpants by Claire Freedman This story tells about how aliens come to Earth not to see us but to take our underwear! Aliens come to Earth play with our underwear and then take them back to their planet in their spaceships. So, be sure to look and see if there is an alien hiding in your underwear before putting it on. Next, was craft time. For today's craft the children glued a U onto a picture of plain underwear. They then used stickers to decorate their underwear. Next week we are combining the letters X and Y to make up for last weeks snow day. I sure hope we don't get anymore snow!
