V is for Valentine's Day

We had 17 children and 8 adults attend story hour this morning. Our letter today was the letter V for Valentine's Day. We talked about telling our friends and family on Valentine's Day how much we care about them. Our first two stories today were about friendship. Our first story was

Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud This book teaches not only how to be a good friend but also why we need to be good friends. After the story we sang "If You're Friendly and You Know It." We clapped our hands, stomped our feet, and shouted hooray. Our next story today was

Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle I absolutely love this book! It's all about how important being a good friend is because you don't know when you may need their help. The kids joined in whenever I said "beep" by "beeping" their nose with their hands. After the story we sang "H-E-A-R-T" to the tune of "Bingo." The adults had a bit of a rough go singing this song, including myself. However, we did get better on the last couple times through. It can be really challenging to sing different words to a tune. Our last story was

Sweet Hearts by Jan Carr This is a cute little book about a bear who hides valentine's for every member of her family to find. For our craft today we got to use paint! I printed out the letter V onto construction paper and the kids stamped hearts onto it using paint. They also got to glue on heart sequins. Next weeks theme is P is for Pigs.
