H is for Halloween

We had 27 children come to story hour today! I think they maybe had already dipped into some candy before coming, because they were very energetic today! They all looked great in their costumes too. Our first story today was

Popcorn by Frank Asch In this story, bears parents leave to go to a Halloween party. Bear decides to have a party of his own and invites all his friends over. However, all his friends bring popcorn to share. What are they going to do with all that popcorn? After the story we sang a Halloween song to the tune of "If Your Happy and You Know It." We were ghosts, cats and skeletons. The children really got into it and got a little carried away. After the parents/caregivers helped me reign in the children, I did a draw and tell story called Halloween.

The story was about a girl and boy who are getting ready for a special evening by filling their bellies with food. While reading the story, I was drawing a face of a pumpkin. The kids got to guess what I was drawing at the end of the story. We then sang more verses of the Halloween song. We were witches, werewolves, and bats. When we ended it was to late to read our last book, so we headed to the tables to do this weeks craft. We turned the letter H into a house for our craft. Next weeks theme is D for dinosaurs.

Happy Halloween!
