Monsters

We had 31 children and 10 adults attend story hour this morning. Our theme today was monsters! The first story today was

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak This story is about a boy who ventures to the land of wild things, where he becomes there king. After awhile the boy grows tired of being wild and goes back home. The pages of this book wanted to stick together and I think I might have skipped a couple pages. Opps. After the story we went on a monster hunt. We checked under the bed, in the closet, behind the curtains, down the hall, and found one in the garage. The children seemed to have fun with this activity. Our second story was

Leonardo the Terrible Monster by Mo Willems Leonardo the monster is not good at scaring people. So, he goes in search of the most scaredy cat kid and finds Sam. Leonardo thinks he has finally managed to scare someone until Sam informs him that he is just sad because no one wants to be his friend. Leonardo decides to be a friend instead of a monster. After the story, we sang "If your a Monster and you Know it." Our last story for the day was

Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley In this story we see a monster slowly take shape and then disappear bit by bit. The children enjoyed seeing the different parts of the monster disappear between pages. Our craft today was to make a paper bag monster puppet. Next week's theme is Black Cats and everyone is invited to come dressed in their Halloween costumes.
