O is for Octopus

Fifteen children and seven adults attended story hour this morning. Today we learned about the letter O. Our first story was

Tickly Octopus by Ruth Galloway This story is about an octopus who is good at tickling, but not everyone likes to be tickled. Octopus learns that there are other things that he is good at. After the story we pretended to be octopuses. We wiggled our arms, swam, and gave ourselves a hug. Our next story was

I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry This story is about a giant squid who believes hes the biggest thing in the ocean. He is bigger then a lot of creatures in the ocean, but is he the biggest? I also did a draw and tell story called "Ocean Thing." By the end of the story I had drawn an Octopus! After the stories we sang "Mr. Lobster and Mrs. Crab" to the tune of Old McDonald. The first time through was a bit rough, so we had to do a second round. Our last story for the day was

Hooray for Fish by Lucy Cousins This story is about a fish who swims around saying hello to all the different kinds of fish in the ocean. Our craft today was turning the letter O into an octopus. Next weeks theme is V is for Valentine's Day.
