Pumpkins

We had another great story hour with 26 children and 10 adults. Our theme today was Pumpkins! I started with a riddle today with the answer of course being a pumpkin. Our first story was

The Bumpy Little Pumpkin by Margery Cuyler This story is about a little girl who chooses a bumpy little pumpkin to be her jack-o-lantern, even though her sisters think its ugly. After the story we did a little science experiment with a pumpkin. I used baking soda, soap, and vinegar to make a pumpkin volcano. The children really enjoyed watching all the bubbles come out of the top. We then did a quick little rhyme called "Two little Pumpkins" Our second and last story today was

I Like Pumpkins by Jerry Smath This book is all about pumpkins. It tells us about all the shapes they come in and what you can make with them. Next we practiced counting backwards from five with another rhyme called "Five Orange Pumpkins." Our craft today was to make a "thumbkin patch." Next weeks theme is monsters. GRRRRR!
