School Days

Today was our first story hour of the season! We had a large group with 32 children and 11 adults. To start our time we did a fun action song called tooty ta. We had several children join in on this song! After the song we talked a little about school and if they had any siblings that went to school. Our first book was

Off to School Baby Duck by Amy Hest    This story was about Baby duck who was scared to go to school, but once he gets there, he decides that he loves school. After the story we did a matching activity. I had different colored lambs that the children matched to the correct school house. There was a rhyme that went with the activity we said a couple times. Our next story was,

Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney    Llama Llama goes to his first day of school and is sad when his mom leaves, but by the end of the day he has made some friends and had some fun. When mama comes back, Llama Llama is excited to show her everything he did that day. To get rid of some wiggles, we sang "Wheels on the bus." Everyone did a wonderful job with the actions to this song.

We were running short on time, so we skipped the third book and headed to the tables to do our craft. Our craft today was to make a paper bag backpack. I even had some school supply cut outs for them to put in their little backpacks.

To end our time together we said a goodbye chant. It was a little shaky but I'm sure we'll get better at it in the next few weeks.

All are welcome to join us next Tuesday for Fall/Autumn!
